State Tower (lebua)

Bangkok's most famous rooftop, made world-famous by The Hangover Part II. A sweeping staircase leads down to a round, colour-changing bar perched high above the bend of the Chao Phraya River. It is mainly a standing bar: no food, just cocktails and champagne, including the Hangovertini. Expect crowds and high prices, but the view over the river and State Tower's golden dome still impresses.

💡 Tip: Arrive right at 17:00 for a railing spot at sunset. No reservations.

Sirocco is the open-air restaurant one floor below Sky Bar, with tables around the illuminated dome and live music on a stage. The focus is a Mediterranean dinner with river and skyline views, more formal and calmer than the bar above. A good choice for a special night for two, provided you are happy to pay for it.

💡 Tip: Book ahead and ask for an edge table. Combine with a drink at Sky Bar.

One of Bangkok's original sky bars and still among the best. Moon Bar and the Vertigo grill share a former helipad on the 61st floor, open to the sky with an unobstructed 360-degree view. Frequently asked questions about rooftop bars in Thailand

What is the dress code at rooftop bars in Thailand?

The upscale sky bars in Bangkok (such as Sky Bar, Vertigo and Spire) are strict: men need long trousers and closed shoes, no flip-flops, shorts or sleeveless tops. On the islands and in Pattaya it is often resort casual. Each bar lists its dress code.

What is the best time to visit a rooftop bar?

Arrive about half an hour before sunset; in Thailand the sun sets between roughly 18:00 and 18:45 all year. At popular bars like Sky Bar there is already a queue by then, so arriving at 17:00 gets you the best spot at the railing.

How much does a cocktail cost at a rooftop bar in Thailand?

At Bangkok's famous sky bars expect around 400 to 900 baht per cocktail, plus 10% service and 7% VAT. Smaller rooftops and bars outside Bangkok are cheaper, often 200 to 400 baht. Many bars have a happy hour.

What is the minimum age for rooftop bars in Thailand?

The legal drinking age in Thailand is 20. Many sky bars admit only adults after sunset; bring your passport or a copy. Children are sometimes welcome in the restaurants or before 18:00.

Do you need to book?

For the best-known bars and for sunset sofas or tables, yes. Some bars, like Sky Bar, take no reservations: first come, first served. Open-air terraces may close in bad weather.

Data from official bar and hotel websites, Time Out, BK Magazine and travel guides (October 2026). Opening hours, prices and dress codes change often; check before you go.
